XPN Welcomes Purling Hiss at the Gild Hall
We love loud guitars in Arden, and on December 6th Philly's premier psychedelic garage rockers Purling Hiss will shake the old barn's rafters with their own brand of weird lo-fi pop on December 6th. If you like old school Dinosaur Jr., you'll love this band! They have a new album "Weirdon" out 9/23 on Drag City Records, and the teaser sounds fantastic. Last year's "Water on Mars" made my Best Of list for 2013.
WXPN will be helping promote the show!
Spin Magazine: "Within Philadelphia exists a rotating cast of songwriters, friends and collaborators, all aboard a rock and roll freak train. These include Kurt Vile and his band the Violators, as well as Adam Granduciel, the man behind neo-classic rock outfit The War on Drugs. But there's also the mighty Mike Polizze, mastermind of skittering punk group Purling Hiss. While Polizze shares Vile and Granduciel's sensibilities for feedback-drenched guitars, Purling Hiss songs are rooted in lysergic grooves, wading into murkier sonic and lyrical territories along the way."
Pretty cool, right?
St. James & The Apostles "These guys are cousins with music that does more than hint at inbred southern craziness. It is blues most kozmik, loose, heavy, with a grunge component. It is guitar, drums, and keyboards, so at times it feels like Leslie West jamming with Rod Argent. Very cool set, even with sounds you think you know, these guys have a way to twist and power them to new places." - David Hintz
Thunderhank Brothers Henry and Samuel Bellingham formed Thunderhank while living in Los Angeles in 2013. After attending high school in Wilmington, Delaware, the brothers lived in LA for five years during which they studied music, played in various self-imploding musical groups and, finally, decided to strike off as a duo. The music is made with a mix of acoustic and electronic instruments and uses ambient textures to obscure the formal pop song structures. When their first work "Tracker" received a wave of attention they then recorded and co-produced the remaining four songs on their debut EP, "Thunderhank EP," released April 29th 2014.
Tickets only $10! All ages.
