ELIZABETH & THE CATAPULT
Like It Never Happened is the product of Elizabeth & The Catapult's namesake Elizabeth Ziman's creative labors over the past year and a half. After a split with Verve Records, Ziman took to busking in the subways of her beloved New York to teach herself to play guitar. Long a piano-centric performer and songwriter, the guitar revitalized Ziman and led to an outpouring of new songs. Ziman originally intended to record the new material with musical idol Richard Swift, but her focus shifted as former bandmate Dan Molad (Lucius, Here We Go Magic) stepped in. Like It Never Happened was co-produced by Molad and another former bandmatePeter Lalish (Lucius).
As Elizabeth & the Catapult, Ziman has released two full-length albums and a self-produced, recorded and released EP. 2009's Taller Children was produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes) and featured collaborations with Tilly and the Wall. The band's second full-length was The Other Side of Zero, produced by Tony Berg (Aimee Mann) and featuring Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings. The Other Side of Zero, which drew interest from ANNE HATHAWAY who used the album's track "Thank You For Nothing" as inspiration for her hair cutting scene in Les Miserables. Hathaway later cast Elizabeth as a street musician in an upcoming film about New York Musicians. Since The Other Side of Zero, Elizabeth & the Catapult has reformed as Ziman's singular endeavor while working with a band for performances. The last few years have found her touring with SARA BAREILLES, GREG LASWELL, LENKA and KISHI BASHI, as well as singing backgrounds for THE SHINS and THE WATERBOYS and playing drums in Kishi Bashi's band.
Press Quotes
Like It Never Happened (Jan 2014 Scratchback Records/Thirty Tigers)
"Ms. Ziman's voice is full and flexible enough to sound casual and talky in one song, near-operatic in another," raves the New York Times. "Her piano playing, reflecting classical studies, can be virtuosicat her best, Ms. Ziman brings her own core of craft and insight to the mainstream. She tucks musicianly treats into her songs: meter shifts, unexpected chord progressions and structures that break free of verse-chorus-bridge, all crisply executed by her band." More recent critical acclaim for Like It Never Happened includes
"Clever pop that fearlessly breaks rules" Billboard
"The new record builds catchy alt pop tracks from personal lyrics and complex, quirky arrangement." NPR

"[The title track] is an irresistible pop gem." NYLON
CODY LOVAAS
Dallas born, San Diego-raised singer-songwriter Cody Lovaas has discovered a voice and pure direction that make it hard to believe he is only sixteen years old. His preferred means of travel is a surfboard, which carries him through crystalline days along the Pacific Coast. Influenced by artists such as Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, Ben Howard and his local peers, Lovaas seamlessly combines his love for music and surf into fluid blues-imbued acoustic machinations. Lovaas is beginning to carve out the early stages of a signature sound. There are three things that Cody is most passionate about: music, surfing, and the desire to make a difference in the world.
In the spring of 2013, Lovaas joined the Bill Silva Management artist roster alongside GRAMMY Award-winning Jason Mraz. The blossoming young artist, whose chops have landed him prominent sponsorships, sings of the vast ocean and contentment in the present moment, an oft-forgotten philosophy for those dwelling on the errors of yesterday and fearing the trials of tomorrow.
Lovaas' straightforward folk soundscape has drawn praise from local airwaves all the way to Radio Prime Norway. He has played Anaheim Stadium, shared the stage with Jason Mraz at the America's Cup Pavilion in San Francisco and the Santa Barbara Bowl and performed at the 2014 Switchfoot BroAm. Humble and borderline shy between songs, he bristles with confidence once he strums the guitar he has played since the age of seven and croons his original tunes and astute covers such as Ray LaMontagne's "Trouble" and John Lennon's "Imagine".
The songs of Cody Lovaas exude a maturity betraying his mere 16 years. He dedicates his time and energy to causes he believes in, and most notably Lovaas was elected the newest and youngest ambassador to SurfAid International and Natural High alongside the likes of Jack Johnson, Kelly Slater and Rob Machado. He does not waste his breath on the trite gimmickry one may have come to expect from vocalists of his age and generation. Lovaas recognizes his fortunate place in the world and the life he gets to live while speaking from a genuine core and reminding us of the stress-free days of youth.
