This is a Train the Trainer workshop. Participants will leave with the ability to train others to train this curriculum. It is a comprehensive 3-day training, participants must attend all 3 days in order to recieve a certificate. Agency staff who work directly with people with developmental disabilities are often approached with questions about sexuality. These staff may not know how to handle this sensitive issue with consumers. This workshop will train you to help other staff become more comfortable talking about this topic.
Participants will:
Explore what makes it difficult for agency staff to talk about sexuality with consumers and discuss solutions to those barriers
Explore how to help people with developmental disabilities become "sexual self-advocates"
Discuss ways to teach this topic to other agency staff
Examine our own values and attitudes regarding how staff might see this issue
Practice effective training techniques to use with staff.
Lunch will be provided for all 3 days.
