Valley Concert Chorale - Spring Concert
Contrasts feature: Gabriel Faure's ever popular, serene and peaceful Requiem is one of the great masterworks of all time. This elegant, graceful, tender composition is filled with lovely sounds that strive to bring comfort and promise. This contemplative work offers clear and simple textures that draw the listener into the magic and mystical power of music. This Requiem is filled with beautiful melodies that capture the proper mood of the text. Acclaimed Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo's music has been performed in over 30 countries. At 36, the rising star is one of the "hottest" choral composers today and recordings of his music have hit the top of the charts including Billboard and Gramaphone. Described by American Record Guide, his "plush and ecstatic music is irresistible". He is one of those young composers who writes choral music in an approachable idiom. I can't imagine any music lover not being enchanted with this music. Inspired by film music, his works are lush, warm and exuberant. The chorus will be joined by String Quartet and piano for Gjeilo's Luminous Nights of the Soul, The Ground and Serenity across the Vast Eternal Sky.
