David Razowsky Workshops at Unscrewed Theater
David Razowsky is one of the top teachers of theatrical improvisation and acting. He has been called "the guru of improvisation, an improviser's improviser," who connects the mindfulness of Buddhism with improvisation's core principals of being in the moment, taking care of your partner, and groundedness. In his 25-year improvisation career David has worked with The Second City, iO West, The Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Dreamworks, BBC's Whose Line Is It Anyway, and Amsterdam's Boom Chicago Theatre.
Workshops are listed with dates and times. All workshops (unless indicated) will be held at Unscrewed Theater:
Friday, October 24, 7-10PM *WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD AT COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT WILLIAMS CENTRE 201 S Williams Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85711* INSTANT CHARACTERS - Building strong characters starts the moment your foot hits the floor, not the moment you start "thinking." This workshop will focus on the organic unfolding of character based on that first step. Characters are richer, instantly fleshed out and exciting, all leading to playing people you've never inhabited, in scenes you've never before played. More beingless thinking!
Saturday, October 25, 10AM-1PM SEEING THE FIRST STEP IS THE FIRST STEP - When you enter a scene with a plan, you have to follow that plan, something your partner knows nothing about. When you come into a scene with awareness, then see what's reallytherewhere to stop moving, where to put your focus, your opening line. Everything. Know how to know, and then have the confidence to follow through. It's all in The First Step.
Saturday, October 25, 2PM-5PM SHAPE/GESTURE/TEMPO: VIEWPOINTS ELEMENTS IN ACTION - Whether you're an old pro using Viewpoints, or just you just wanna be mindful of these, using Shape, Gesture and Tempo creates instant character, dynamic and scenes without you adding anything but your awareness (which you're already bringing!). No previous Viewpoints classes needed for you to take this workshop and begin your new way of feeling/being/acting/living
Sunday, October 26, 10AM-1PM PRO-(POSITIVE) CHOICES - A toolbox contains more than a hammer, so shouldn't your scenes contain more than anger and conflict? Find creative freedom when positive emotional choices drive your scenes. Guide your scenes forward without a need to conjure up an argument, defend your side of the story, or your need to have your ego intact at the scene's end. It's not about winning our losing---it's about keeping the scene alive.
Sunday, October 26, 2PM-5PM SHARPEN YOUR POINT OF VIEW - The very first exchanges of your scene tell you all you need to know about who you are and where to emotionally and energetically go. Are you aware of that? Are you listening to yourself at that time? Hmm? Are ya'? This workshop will guide you to your point of view, and have you following yourself confidently, bravely, excitedly, and easily. It's as simple as that!
