OPUS by Michael Hollinger at The Piedmont Center For The Arts
"Opus", an award-winning play by Michael Hollinger, will be performed by The Piedmont Players at The Piedmont Center For The Arts. This wonderful, live theatre performance involves the Lazara Quartet, a foursome at the top of their field but with some issues! The evening will be full of music (Bach, Beethovan), intrigue and shocking interactions between the quartet performers! Three of the male quartet members have played together since music school; the cellist is a rock-steady family man. And then along comes "Grace", a talented young violist some 20 years younger than any of the men. Tempers fly, sparks ignite, but the music flows as the Quartet prepares for a White House debut!
Directed by Michael French, the outstanding cast does not miss a beat! The first violinist, "Elliott" is played by Michael Sally (who starred in last year's "God of Carnage") with Piedmonter Stephen Rexrode (also starring in "Carnage") returning to the company in the role of "Alan". We are pleased to have these two joined by newcomer, John Simpson, an exciting actor who has been seen on Australian television and several film productions in addition to works at Masquers and Town Hall Theatres. John plays the part of the celllist, "Carl" against another newcomer to Piedmont, Benoit Minon, playing the volatile role of "Dorian", a music prodigy and genius. Benoit, a veteran SF improv performer, trained at both ACT and BATS.
The performance runs 80 minutes with no intermission and is suitable for children and great for any musically-inclined youth. Refreshments served at no charge.
