CINEMA TREMENS PRESENTS: STICK IT and THE LONGEST YARD
Marc Edward Heuck, founder of The Projector Has Been Drinking film and culture blog, presents the eighth installment of his screening series: CINEMA TREMENS! Offering a carefully crafted brew of cinematic styles we hope you find intoxicating.
The fall brings new colors to the city, and a new location for Cinema Tremens. We're moving this cinematic cocktail party to the beautiful Downtown Independent on Main St., in the heart (or at least the right ventricle) of the hottest nightlife in Los Angeles!
Fall also brings another intense season of athletic competition, and our September double feature presents two inspirational tales of rebellious specialists whose unsportsmanlike behavior forces them to discover the real team player they've kept in the duffel bag far too long.
First, Missy Peregrym is rising gymnast Haley Graham, the most hated girl in spandex after abruptly leaving her team in the middle of the World Championship. Two years and a court order later, she finds herself back to the bars, with Jeff Bridges as her hard-boiled coach and a sea of angry faces as her support system. When they recognize that all of them are competing in a contest where the judges have never so much as worn a jockstrap, they'll band together for a bigger prize in the witty, wicked STICK IT, also starring Kellan Lutz, Vanessa Lengies, and Jon Gries. Writer/director Jessica Bendinger, who previously wrote the modern cheerleading classic BRING IT ON, will appear IN PERSON to talk about the thought-provoking ideas underneath her crackling comic banter.
Then, the immortal Burt Reynolds is football star Paul "Wrecking" Crewe, whose offside offenses end up sending him to play the gridiron game at the grey bar hotel. But when sadistic warden Eddie Albert starts engaging in unnecessary roughness with the prisoners, Burt steps up to lead them in a Hail Mary counterstrike in Robert Aldrich's original THE LONGEST YARD, celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year! Co-starring Ed Lauter, Michael Conrad, Richard Kiel, and Anitra Ford.
Please join us on September 17th (one night only) for an evening that will bring the pain...of laughter!
