MusicaNova Young Artists: Lily Kwak and Supriya Weiss
Remarkable young musicians, pianist Lilly Kwak and flautist Supriya Weiss, join MusicaNova in a lovely afternoon recital at the Arizona Piano Company in Phoenix to play works by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Hindemith, and others.
Lily Kwak, 11, is a 6th grader at Kyrene AltadeƱa Middle School in Ahwatukee. She has played the piano for 6 years, and currently studies with Hong Zhu. Lilly has won first place in many competitions including the Desert Valley Music Teachers Association in 2011, the Arizona State Music Teachers Association Honors Recital in 2012, the East Valley Music Teachers Association in 2013, the Desert Valley Music Teachers Association, and most recently, 2nd place in the Avanti Future Stars Steinway Piano Competition. Other than playing the piano, Lily enjoys ice skating, doing gymnastics, reading books, solving math problems and brainteasers, and doing crafts.
Supriya Weiss, 13, is an 8th grader at Sunrise Middle School's Digital Learning Center in Scottsdale. She has been playing flute for seven years and piano for six. A flautist with the Phoenix Youth Symphony, she joined Phoenix Youth Symphony's Symphonic Winds as a fifth grader and worked her way up to Youth Symphony. In 2014, she placed first in the Phoenix Youth Symphony's Young Musician Concerto Competition, junior division. She has also placed repeatedly in Arizona Flute Society competitions and EVMTA piano competitions. She studies flute with Carol Mellis and piano with Dr. Mandarin Cheung-Yueh. In her spare time, Supriya enjoys competing in spelling bees and math competitions, watching Star Trek, and eating waffles.
