Guest Speaker: Fr. Luis Barrios is a human rights activist & former SOA Watch prisoner of conscience who served two months in federal prison for crossing the line onto the Fort Benning military base, where the SOA is located. The Rev. Luis Barrios, Ph.D., is a professor at John Jay College in New York and chair of the Department of Latin American & Latina/o Studies. Since 1988, Dr. Barrios is a columnist of El Diario La Prensa in NYC, one of the oldest Spanish newspapers in the United States. In addition, Rev. Barrios is an associate priest at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in West Harlem, New York City and an active member of IFCO-Pastor for Peace Board of Director.
Includes a short documentary film THE NEW PATRIOTS by Robert Richter. Five U.S. military veterans, including a Congressional Medal of Honor winner and a woman West Point graduate, speak out about terrorism, patriotism and their transformation from warriors to peace activists.
The School of the Americas is a taxpayer-funded camp in Ft. Benning, Georgia, used to train Latin American military officers in torture tactics.
This event is a Benefit for Cinema Arts Centre and LI SOA Watch, and part of the World Peace March activities
