Northwest Sinfonietta: Havana Heat & Harlem Beats
Sunday, March 15 - 2:00 PM Pioneer Park Pavilion
This energetic concert will feature The Harlem Quartet with Cuban jazz pianist and composer Aldo López-Gavilán, playing a program of classical, jazz, and Latin fusion. Aldo is a world-renowned pianist and his older brother Ilmar Gavilán won several prestigious violin competitions before helping to start the Grammy Award-winning Harlem Quartet, whose mission is to advance diversity in classical music and engage young and new audiences through the discovery and presentation of varied repertoire that includes works by minority composers. The Gavilán brothers grew up in Cuba as prodigies in a family of internationally acclaimed classical musicians, and this collaborative program presents the two brothers for their first performance together in the U.S.
