The Mindful Body: Cultivating Intentional and Intensified Presence for Performance With Master Teach
This workshop invites physical actors and dancers to deepen their movement vocabulary and stage presence through learning the techniques of Wendell Beavers, Master Teacher and founder of the Naropa Universitys Contemporary Performance Program. Beavers groundbreaking form combines principles of body/mind centering, Viewpoints, kinesthetic awareness and imagery. Participants will develop multi-layered compositional skills to apply towards choreography as pure movement, choreography for the theater, and physical presence as the foundation for both naturalistic acting and transformational physical states.
Wendell Beavers is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and faculty member and founder of Naropa Universitys MFA Theater, Contemporary Performance Program. He was a founding faculty member and director of New York University's Experimental Theater Wing, creating the Universitys unique cross training curriculum in dance and physical theater. He was named a Master Teacher at Tisch School of the Arts in 1996. He is one of three major teachers and developers of The Viewpoints, along with originator Mary Overlie and the director Anne Bogart. He began choreographing his own work in the early '90s and his solo and group works have been produced in New York by Dance Theater Workshop, The Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church and a number of other venues. He was also co-founder and director of Movement Research, Inc. in NYC. He has taught actors and dancers worldwide including many schools and professional studios in Europe.
