Come see a truly sustainable food system. Aquaponics -- the merger of growing fish and vegetables together -- is a closed-loop system, where effluents from fish are recycled through grow beds. There, plants take up nutrients and clean the water for the fish. Imagine that!
An aquaponics system is capable of feeding one person all year on a 25 sq. ft. footprint. Aquaponics uses 98% less water and 70% less energy than traditional farming practices. The practice takes "organic" to the next level. In a successful operation, there will be no pesticides, no oils, no soapsnothing!
Grass Roots is a Community Supported Agriculture farm focusing on the production of high quality foods using aquaponic and organic farming practices.
Working with this type of system has enabled the Ingenuity Innovation Center to see that an individual (fish, plant, gallon of water, person ) can thrive when their needs get met. Come see how Ingenuity brings together artists, builders, inventors, gardeners, dreamers and humanitarians to create low-tech solutions around food, energy and water to enhance across-the-board health and wellbeing.
