Fredericksburg Museum Sampler and Cocktail Reception
On Thursday, October 16, TPR members can enjoy complimentary admission to three of Fredericksburg's historic museums from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a special cocktail reception at the National Museum of the Pacific War. Fredericksburg has long been known for its shopping, dining, and recreational lodging -- but there's plenty of history in the city as well. Take the opportunity to learn more at the following sites:
National Museum of the Pacific War: Also known as the "Nimitz Museum," named for Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, commander of the Pacific fleet during the war. The six-acre campus houses the Nimitz Museum, as well as larger exhibits that tell the story of WWII's Pacific Theater, the only museum in the country dedicated to doing so. 340 E. Main St., Fredericksburg, TX.
Fort Martin Scott: Active for only a short time in the mid 1800s, Fort Martin Scott was a U.S. Army outpost established to protect settlers in Texas. The fort offers self-guided walking tours, living history reenactments, and is located on the banks of Barons Creek, at 1606 E. Main St., Fredericksburg, TX.
Pioneer Museum: Three acres of the shopping district in downtown Fredericksburg are set aside for historic preservation. There are eleven buildings to tour on the Pioneer Museum complex grounds, including the iconic Vereins Kirche. 325 W. Main St., Fredericksburg, TX.
As you begin your tour, please check-in at the Pioneer Museum for a name badge and map. Then, following your tour of the museums, TPR members can visit with us at a special reception in the ballroom of the Nimitz Museum, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Enjoy wine from Bending Branch Winery, beer from Pedernales Brewing Company, and the company of your fellow TPR members while the Sofi String Quartet provides a musical backdrop.
Date: Thursday, October 16 Museum Tour: 2-5 p.m. (check in and get name badge/map at the Pioneer Museum) Reception Time: 5 p.m. Reception location: Nimitz Museum, 340 E. Main St., Fredericksburg, TX.
