Eric John Kaiser - "Idaho" CD Release w.s.g. Alex Toucourt
Please join us for an evening of Parisian-Americana with Portland's French Troubadour, Eric John Kaiser, live at Empty Sea. Eric will be releasing his new CD Idaho, with special guest Alex Toucourt from France!

Eric John Kaiser may be known as The French Troubadour, but there is so much more to this talented artist. While his French roots may make him seem exotic, those in the know realize that's just the beginning of his story. Eric moved to the States in 2006 and has been putting his unique stamp on the Portland, OR music scene ever since. He tells his story and takes the audience on a journey along the way. It is his way to connect with people's souls  shared experiences about humanity.

The need to evolve and grow as an artist has led Eric to travel extensively, soaking up the cultures and stories of the people he meets. Eric has logged close to 10,000 miles each year since moving to Portland and his trips have taken him all the way from the Pacific Northwest to New Orleans to The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. His journeys are a striking parallel to the early American pioneers and settlers that left what they knew behind them and sought a new life. It wasn't a covered wagon or a ship, but Eric has the same sense of wonder whether driving his trusty Subaru under the wide Montana sky or riding the subway under the New York City canyons. His music has logged as many miles and picked up accents from across the American landscape. His latest songs resonate with a very American rhythm, like bouncing across the vast plains on horseback... You can hear some western lap steel guitar or dirty roadhouse blues mixed in with his traditional French stylings  a Parisian Americana, if you will.

Having started his musical career in France  playing in the cafes and pubs in Paris. Eric recorded several EP's and played over 350 concerts in France before deciding to move to the US in 2006. He still tours frequently, including a yearly trip back to his native France for shows. In Paris he has played at the Solidays Festival, La Scène Bastille, and Fête de la Musique. In March 2010, he also toured around the United States and Canada with his friend and fellow French musician Tété where he performed at the Smithsonian Institution as part of an artist-in-residence program. Later that year, Eric did a West Coast tour that took him from Portland to San Diego in promotion for his latest EP. It was during that tour that he performed at the DeYoung Museum as a part of an extensive French Impressionist masterpiece show on loan from Paris' Musée d'Orsay. In late 2010, he was back in France releasing Portland Rendez-Vous and was interviewed on French National TV and Radio. Beginning in January 2011, he found himself on the road again touring Idaho, Utah, Montana, and Washington where he was featured on various publications. Later in March on the East Coast he was playing shows in Boston, Providence, and New York City. He also somehow managed to squeeze in sharing the stage with the Welsh super stars the Stereophonics.

Eric John Kaiser's upcoming CD is the culmination of his travels through the American West. He came upon an historic hotel in Lava Hot Springs, ID that spoke to him and ended up staying at The River Side Inn to write and finish his latest effort  aptly titled Idaho. The energy in the 100+ year old building reminded him of the pioneers and cowboys that founded the town  It was like going back in the past and connecting with those early people's courage and sense of adventure. Eric can relate to that in a way  Exploring a new life. These songs are a reflection of Eric and the evolution of his career. It speaks to the big open spaces, the vastness of the sky, the feeling of being everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It is the continuation of Eric's journey, his evolution and the endless possibilities the freedom of being on the road provides.
