GIDION'S KNOT
The Boulevard Theatre premiers acclaimed playwright Johnna Adams' emotional indictment of the American educational system.  This provocative tale tells of a parent-teacher conference gone wildly astray.  Adams 90-minute script deftly scrutinizes educational mediocrity in America while cannily confronting the current issues of bullying, teen suicide and adult responsibility.

GIDION'S KNOT will be presented at Milwaukee's Walker's Point Center for the Arts, located at 839 South Fifth Street (just south of National avenue)  [www.wpca-milwaukee.org].  The intimate physical confines of the Walker's Point Center for the Arts "Blue-Box" theatre space will serve to both sharpen the play's impact while reminding patrons of the Boulevard's former storefront studio space.

Celebrated East Coast director/performer Patricia Durante will fly in to direct this Wisconsin premiere.  Local actress Lisa Schnell portrays the troubled mother "Corynne" and Nicole Gorski plays the teacher "Heather" in this "roller coaster" of a script that has won raves throughout the country. For more information contact, The Boulevard Theatre (414. 744. 5757).

This production is a proud recipient of an arts funding award from the prestigious Milwaukee Arts Board.

Artistic Director, Mark Bucher selected GIDION'S KNOT specifically to foster greater opportunities for female theatre professionals.  In this day ever-shrinking cast sizes, the chance for an actress to portray a dynamic, expansive character has grown rarer and rarer.  And Boulevard wanted to hire a female director to allow an increased bond between the two-women cast and their director.  Adams' play virulently discusses the modern educational system, to be sure.  But this exceptional writer handles topics such as parenting, motherhood, ambition and success for the modern woman and the sacrifices every woman must now make in our present day society.  Boulevard's staging of this Wisconsin premiere showcases a female playwright, a female cast, and a female director.
