Jeffrey Goldberg: Across the Middle East Divide
Long-time New Yorker writer Jeffrey Goldberg has written a memoir entitled Prisoners: A Muslim and a Jew Across the Middle East Divide. Goldberg is an American-born Jew raised in a liberal, nonobservant family who "discovered" Zionism and immigrated to Israel as a young man. During his experience as a military prison guard he became friends with a Palestinian prisoner named Rafiq, and it is through the lens of this friendship that he struggles to understand the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His poignant and complex account of the seemingly intractable conflict offers the possibility of reconciliation. Presented as part of the Town Hall Center for Civic Life with Nextbook and Elliott Bay Book Company. Downstairs at Town Hall, enter on Seneca Street.
