Blues Guitar Intensive with Mike Stockbridge
For many guitar enthusiasts the blues can provide a fun and satisfying outlet for their creativity. Today the word blues covers a wide range of unique styles that follow a specific form. Furthermore, the vocabulary for improvising in the blues can be used in a wide variety of contexts.
In this seminar we will discuss how to familiarize yourself with the nuances of the blues. From understanding the form of the music, to use of relevant scales and techniques, to essential listening as well as playing with others; all will be discussed in depth.
If you are a die hard blues guitar enthusiast, budding improviser, or just want to gain new experience with a different style of music, then this seminar is for you.
Mike Stockbridge is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and music educator based in Concord, NH. He attended Berklee College of Music and the University of Maine. He performs regularly throughout New England.
Mike's guitar work has been featured on radio shows in France, Portugal, Macedonia, and other parts of Europe. Mike has recorded with or performed live and in clinic with a diverse group of musicians including: 2007 NEA jazz master Toshiko Akiyoshi, San Francisco based percussionist Alex Vittum, Thelonius Monk Inst./BMI composer of the year winner Steve Grover, Clarinetist Brad Terry and guitarist Tony Gaboury, to name just a few. In 2009 he released his first full length, self-titled album as a bandleader which has been met with many positive reviews; proving that Mike Stockbridge as a guitarist is a uniquely fresh voice in the New England jazz scene. As he moves into 2014 Mike Stockbridge is poised to release his third album of original music.
An educator in high demand with over a decade of experience, Mike currently teaches multiple instruments at his own studio in North Conway, NH, the Robert Frost Charter School, North Conway, NH, and Dreamsicle Arts, Pembroke, NH,. He has been affiliated with many great educational programs - most notably the Tony Boffa School of Contemporary Music located in Westbrook ME, and the National Guitar/Music Workshop in Litchfield CT.
