James Williamson: World-Premiere of Re-Licked
The Emerald Tablet is thrilled to host the world-premiere of James Williamson's 40-minute video on the making of his forthcoming album, "Re-Licked", and a live interview with V. Vale of Re/Search Publications!
"Last year, Iggy and the Stooges released a new album "Ready to Die." As guitarist James Williamson told Rolling Stone, Iggy wanted to take a year off, but the rest of the Stooges decided to keep going without him. [Bassist Mike Watt, drummer Toby Dammit and saxophonist Steve Mackay worked with Williamson] on an album called "Re-Licked." It features several Raw Power-era tracks the band only played live (which have circulated widely on bootlegs) sung by a variety of guest vocalists.
"The album will feature Ariel Pink, Mark Lanegan, Jello Biafra, The Orwells' Mario Cuomo, blues singer Carolyn Wonderland, Le Butcherettes' Teri Gender Bender, The Dicks' Gary Floyd, and others." Pitchfork
From James Williamson's official website:
While on a break from touring this year, the members of the live touring version of The Stooges got together and recorded songs that were originally penned by Iggy Pop and James Williamson in 1973/74. These songs were never properly recorded since the band didn't have a record deal at the time.
Never before seen, the film, as Williamson has told us, "includes interviews with myself, many of the musicians on the album (including Simone Marie Butler from Primal Scream, Gregg Foreman from Cat Power, Michael Urbanodrummer extraordinaire) also many of the 14 singers on the album such as Jello Biafra, Gary Floyd, Petra Haden, Mark Lanegan, J.G. Thirlwell, Joe Cardamone, Ariel Pink, plus Alison Mosshart footage.
"The performers are recorded in studio making the album with me. Also, included are industry people such as Jon Sidel (A&R for BMG), David Hirshland (Exec VP client services BMG), John Kastner Cobra Side Distribution, etc.
"It is a little over 35 minutes packed with footage including music being made and discussed."
Be the first to watch Williamson's film on the recording of "Re-Licked". Also, V. Vale of RE/Search Publications will be conducting an onstage live interview with James Williamson, ending with an audience Q&A. So if you ever had any questions you wanted to ask, now is the perfect time.
