AbraCadaver Cabaret - Deal with the Devil
Horror gets a new Sound
If you've been around Vancouver for the past five years you might have heard of an annual horror show by the name of 'AbraCadaver Cabaret'. Vancouver's only horror cabaret show was created by sinister sisters Voodoo Pixie and Mama Fortuna, and international burlesque star Melody Mangler.
These three burlesque beauties have been joined nearly every year by Fringe festival favourite Travis Bernhardt, macabre magician Aleister Crane, and veteran actor David Quast. But this year the group is adding something new to the stage.
"We are still doing the same kind of set up that people love about the show," Voodoo explains, "Burlesque, magic and theatre. But this year we've decided to add another exciting aspect: live music."
Some of the most exciting Vancouver burlesque shows are known for using live music, such as Blue Morris' sell-out Beatles Burlesque show, and Pandora and the Lockmsiths. But with this new addition it begs the question, what kind of music will be playing at AbraCadaver?
Jazz? Sulty blues? Spooky surf music?
"It's going to be mostly southern gospel," Voodoo tells us with an impish smile. "I know it sounds like an odd choice for a horror show, but the music actually ties in very closely to this year's overarching story as told by the hosts."
And speaking of hosts, alongside Voodoo Pixie a new addition will be taking the stage: Tyler James Nicol. "After we saw Tyler host at the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, we knew we wanted to get him involved. He's such a delight, and his over-the-top personality is going to fit in well with this show."
Burlesque, magic, theatre, and now live music. It seems that the ladies of AbraCadaver are pulling out all the stops this year. And with the theme being 'Deal with the Devil' it's sure to be one hell of a show.
