XPN Welcomes The Pine Hill Project: Richard Shindell & Lucy Kaplansky with Larry Campbell
The Pine Hill Project is Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell, with producer Larry Campbell. They've just finished recording "Tomorrow You're Going," an album of cover songs. A Kickstarter campaign raised $85,000 to make this a reality, and now the live show comes to Arden!
Lucy and Richard have been singing together for 25 years. And talking about making a record together for just as long. Enough already! The new record is due out in November - details here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1893427276/the-pine-hill-project-richard-shindell-and-lucy-ka
Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams open the show.
The backing band for the live show also includes Justin Guip (drums) and Byron Isaacs (bass)
Lucy and Richard say: "Our voices have always understood each other. It feels like they have a mind of their own. The one instinctively finds its resolution in the other. The simple pleasure of blending these two voices has been a constant for each of us through all the twists and turns of our respective careers.
We are also songwriters - each with many solo albums of original songs. But before either one of us ever put pen to paper and wrote that first "keeper," we were fans of great songs. We still are. For both of us, the discovery of a great song can be as exciting as writing our own. In both cases, we inhabit the song by singing it, falling under its spell, its logic, its mood.
No one understands how this works better than this record's producer, Larry Campbell, another constant in our careers. He was present at the start of both, and has participated in one way or another ever since (either as a session musician on almost every record either one of has ever made, or as producer of two of Richard's records and several of Lucy's tracks)."
Larry Campbell's extensive list of credits includes, as a sideman (Bob Dylan, Levon Helm, B.B. King, K.D. Lang, Sheryl Crow, Buddy and Julie Miller, Willie Nelson, The Black Crowes, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Paul Simon, Cyndi Lauper, David Bromberg, Hot Tuna, Phil Lesh and Friends), as a producer (Levon Helm, Ollabelle, David Bromberg, Jorma Kaukonen) and as a songwriter and composer in his own right, Larry has devoted his career to "making that song, propelling that song" (as he said in one interview, referring to his years on stage with Bob Dylan). If anyone on this planet knows how to get to the essence of a song, it is Larry.
