CARPE DIEM! An Evening at the Black Box with LISA JAEGGI, AUDREY ENGDAHL & LEA
Please join us for a memorable evening with three extraordinary women singer-songwriters at the forefront of the music scene -- and support the launching of the Carpe Diem performance series at the Silver Spring Black Box Theatre.
LISA JAEGGI: Lisa Jaeggi is the lead singer and guitar player for the Brooklyn band Darling Din. They released their debut EP on August 9th, 2014, which is currently available as a "Pay What You Want" digital download on their website www.darlingdin.com. The 5-song EP is a collage of smart, atmospheric indie rock imbued with fire, vim and grit. Jaeggi's emotive vocals veer from quiet confession to howling wail with lyrics that acknowledge the passions of existence and the struggles of the ego. The band created a limited run of 100 physical CDs featuring unique, handmade collage art covers, and Jaeggi is responsible for the digital album cover, a tribute her father who passed away in May of this year. "It's Jaeggi's clever songwriting that makes her songs truly stand out, as the instrumentation mostly serves as an eccentric and fun vessel for her remarkable vocals. Jaeggi, at only 26, exhibits refreshing maturity in her songwriting... It's affirming art like this that the world really needs right now." -Performer Magazine 2/29/12 www.LisaJaeggi.com
AUDREY ENGDAHL: Songwriter, performer, music educator, and visual artist Audrey Engdahl has performed for children and adults at festivals, schools, cafes and farmers markets around the DC area for years. As part of the duo Rick & Audrey, and with contemporary folk band Sense of Wonder, she has garnered WAMMIE nominations, won songwriting contests, and earned a Parents Choice award. You can listen and download songs at CDBaby.com from her two CDs: Sense of Wonder "Open the Gate", and Rick & Audrey "Imagine That!" She is on the roster of artists at Gateway Arts and teaches at the Lowell School. Audrey also teaches guitar, drawing, and watercolor lessons for children and adults out of her Hyattsville home.
LEA's music is described as SoulFolk, a seamless blend of gospel, jazz, country, R&B and contemporary folk. Stylistically between the earthy tones of Tracy Chapman and the urban/ethereal sound of India.Arie, LEA has been featured at the Kennedy Center, The Music Center at Strathmore, and at festivals, schools and other venues in the US and Europe. LEA has shared the stage with Mavis Staples, Dar Williams, Anthony Hamilton, Vivian Green, and the legendary Odetta -- and has just returned from a series of sold-out shows in Germany. The release of her new CD will be celebrated later this fall. Stay tuned! www.ThisIsLea.com
