The 2014 Artsville Songwriting Competition
The 2014 Artsville Songwriting Competition (ASC) will feature 16 songwriters from around the country playing their original songs for a packed house at Black Creek Arts Council in beautiful downtown Hartsville, SC.
The group of songwriters is comprised of nine winners of the monthly Artsville Open Mic, plus seven "wildcard" selections that have performed at the Open Mic throughout the year. The competition runs like a single-elimination tournament, a la March Madness. The 16 songwriters are randomly assigned to a bracket. The first pair will play one song apiece, one after the other. The judges will then pick one of the songwriters to move on to the next round. We'll repeat the process until we have a winner! First prize is $1,000 (cash and prizes). Second place is $500.
The songwriters will be judged on five criteria: songwriting, vocal performance, instrumental performance, stage presence, and audience response. There will be five judges.
Beer, wine, sodas, and water will be available for donations. Advance tickets are $12. Tickets at the door are $15.
Student tickets are only $5! (Limited quantities. Must present valid student ID at door.)
The previous two ASCs were huge successes, with standing room only audiences and a bevy of talented songwriters. Watch the video to get a recap of all the excitement!
