Invincible Czars - "The Wind" - Outdoor Silent Film w/ Live Score HOUSE CONCERT
The Invincible Czars treat Austinites to a special Texas backyard experience for all five senses with their updated score to the 1928 silent film "The Wind" at an intimate, outdoor house concert in South Austin.
Set in the late 1800s, "The Wind" - starring Lillian Gish with screenplay by the legendary Frances Marion tells the story of Letty Mason, a young woman who moves to the dusty plains of West Texas from Virginia and is driven mad by the unrelenting wind.
SEE - the movie unfold in beautiful black and white digital projection amid the flora of a real life backyard. (Zowie!)
HEAR - the band perform its updated score live with the film. (Neat!)
FEEL - the cool (?) autumn wind in your hair. (Cool.)
SMELL - the fresh Texas air and dirt. For a more authentic experience, don't bathe prior to the show. (...uh)
TASTE - the food and drink you bring with you. We recommend sow belly and grits to eat and whiskey to drink in keeping with the cuisine in the story. (ok...)
The Invincible Czars' score is performed by a stripped down line-up of the band:
Phil Davidson - violin, triangle
Jeff Grauzer - bass guitar, samples
Leila Henley - flute, bass clarinet, voice, toys, samples, glockenspiel, triangle, shaker
Josh Robins - acoustic guitar, percussion, loops, voice
The band has updated their score since the spring 2013 debut and it features compositions by Josh Robins, Leila Henley, Phil Davidson and ex-Czars bass player Hen3ry Q Vines. They even sneak a little Ludwig van Beethoven in there.
TICKETS are available in advance on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale of $10-25. Admission will also be available at the door for $20.
The address of the concert will be shared with ticket holders at the time of purchase. Advance ticket buyers will also get a free Invincible Czars CD of their choice at the show.
WEATHER NOTE - in the event of rain, the show will be moved to Salvage Vanguard Theater courtesy of Church of the Friendly Ghost where box fans and at least one potted tree will stand in for the outdoor Texas experience. An announcement of a move will be made no later than 5:00 PM on the day of the show.
