A Seminar Presented by Artist Trust and the Washington Lawyers for the Arts

Saturday, October 25th, 2014

Registration opens at 9:45
Session runs 10am until 12 noon

Are you concerned about how your art and your estate will be managed beyond your lifetime? Do you know how to identify an appropriate person to manage your artwork and related rights? Do you know the difference between a revocable living trust and a will?

Estate planning is a critical process that helps you and your loved ones protect your assets during your life and after your passing. Your creative property is an important asset that must be considered in your estate plan.

In this information-packed seminar, you'll learn the basics of creating an estate plan, helping you to streamline procedures and lower expenses related to gifting, donating, or selling your artwork. Having an estate plan helps preserve your artistic legacy.

This workshop will cover essential concepts and documents artists should consider as part of their estate planning, including:
the role of a will and/or a living trust
beneficiary designations for assets that don't pass under a will (such as life insurance and retirement plan accounts)
powers of attorney for property and personal decisions, and
a living will or healthcare directives, with emphasis on considerations specific to artists' intellectual property, primarily copyrights.

Who Should Attend

Artists, their partners and/or significant others, families, collectors, and others interested in preserving and protecting artwork through estate planning.

Instructor Laura Zeman

Laura is the principal of Zeman Law Group PLLC.  She practices in the areas of estate planning and probate, charitable planning and business planning.  She has lectured on related topics before the Washington State Bar Association, the King County Bar Association and other professional groups.  Prior to opening Zeman Law Group PLLC, Laura practiced law for seven years at a large Seattle law firm.
