How do we as architects, builders, planners, engineers build health and happiness? What is it about Bellingham that has landed it on lists of 'best downtowns' or 'happiest cities.'
The way in which we design and build our communities has a profound impact on our physical, mental, social, environmental and economic well-being. Studies suggest convenient public transportation and places that are affordable and serve as good places to raise children have happier residents. Other suggests that the prescription for healthier communities of people is retrofitting our neighborhoods to encourage exercise, healthy food, low pollution levels and access to nature. But how?
Join Sustainable Connections, NW AIA, and CGBC NW WA Collaborative as we host the 2014 Sustainable Design and Development Conference. We will discuss how to create a built environment that fosters the health and happiness of its inhabitants. With practical tools and resources that can be used in your business, this conference offers inspiration, in-depth education and technical training.
