Macbeth
One of Shakespeare's greatest plays, Macbeth tells the story of the treacherous rise and bloody fall of the King of Scotland. Informed by a trio of witches that he is destined to become King, Macbeth and his wife go to greater and greater lengths to attain and to hold onto this goal.
The costumes, scenic elements, and aesthetic tone of this production will be informed by the 2002-era Bush administration White House. 2002 was a time in which even Bush's critics had not yet realized the lengths to which he would go, or the mess which he would leave behind. It was a time in which loyalty was paramount, and questioning authority was considered "unpatriotic". It was a time in which authority very badly needed to be questioned.
Director Angeli Primlani specializes in examining theatrical works through the eyes of the "minor" characters who are thrust in the middle. For this production her point of view character is Ross (Rocco Renda), a minor nobleman in Duncan's court. Ross begins the play as a loyal friend to Macbeth, and a member of the inner circle, but ultimately his eyes are opened to his true nature.
