Crankie Fest: East Meets West
Please join us for an evening with crankie artists Katherine Fahey, Dejah Leger, and Sue Truman w/Podorythmie, here at Empty Sea!
East Coast crankie artist Katherine Fahey is coming to town to join creative forces with West Coast crankie artists Dejah Leger and Sue Truman w/Podorythmie for a very special evening of art, song and storytelling. Videos of Katherine's award winning, paper cut crankies have been shown at the Jim Henson Film Festival as well as the Atlanta Film Festival. Sue Truman and Dejah Leger have performed their crankies nationally and in Europe.
You might be wondering: what's a crankie? Crankies combine story, song and folk art all in one small box. Evolved from Europe's "moving panoramas," crankies consist of thirty-five feet or so of a hand-decorated scroll. The scroll is loaded into an illuminated box and hand-cranked past a viewing screen. One scene at a time, the scroll reveals the story to the audience, accompanied by a tune, song or story. Sit back and let the magic begin!
The last crankie performance at the Empty Sea sold out, so we advise getting your ticket ahead of time. There will be crankie merchandise for sale and FREE miniature matchbox crankies for the audience. It will be a special evening filled with magic and surprises!
Tickets: $12 advance, $15 at the door.
