JPN NYC
JPN NYC features five accomplished Japanese composers based in New York City. The program will be performed by a unique ensemble which includes, the traditional Japanese instrument, Koto, Guitar, Piano, Cello, Violin and Soprano. Through the program, the audience will experience the new sound of Japanese chamber music beyond the influences of Zen, Noh, and Kabuki.
Sayo Kosugi, a recipient of Palmer Dixon Prize from The Juilliard School composed "Spiraling Sparks" for Violin and Piano in 2014, which will be performed by Drew Spradlin and Lavinia Pavlish. Miho Hazama, a winner of the 2011 ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award, arranged her original music "Introduction and Fuga" for violin, cello and piano. Composer & Koto player, Kento Iwasaki, a recipient of the 2014 Boston Metro Opera Merit Award, will perform his own music, "Misuzu Suite" with singer/violinist, Hirona Amamiya. Also, an award winning cello & guitar duo, Duo Anova, will world-premier "Where It Begins, Where It All Ends" by Goya Masatora, a recipient of Jerome Fund for New Music. In addition, we have Aya Nishina's Flora that will be projected and play through computer.
