Janam (My Soul)
Janam (My Soul) blends Balkan, Near Eastern and American roots and original music, creating rapturous acoustic textures, whirling rhythmns and stunning vocal harmonies. Led by Kitka Women's Vocal Ensemble veteran Juliana Graffagna, Janam is a tight-knit ensemble of some of the most talented multi-instrumentalists and vocalists in the SF Bay Area: Juliana Graffagna- vocals, accordion; Dan Auvril- percussion, kaval; Tom Farris- laouto, guitar, accordion; Gari Hegedus- oud, saz,mandocello, violin; and Lila Sklar-violin, vocals.
Weaving together Eastern exoticism, gritty Appalachian folk melodies and their own inspired compositions, Janam creates a unique sonic landscape of crystalline strings, dissonant harmonies and sultry hard-driving rhythms that has mesmerized audiences and frenzied folk dancers throughout California and the Northwest!
