Banyan is an art rock/alternative rock band with heavy jazz, and funk influence, based in Los Angeles, California. The leader and co-founder is Stephen Perkins, who first played drums for Jane's Addiction (19861991, plus later regroupings), and then for Porno for Pyros. He co-founded the group with Emit Bloch. The core members of the band are Nels Cline on guitar, Willie Waldman on trumpet and Mike Watt (Minutemen) on bass. Mike Watt also sings on some Banyan songs. Both Mike Watt and Nels Cline generally play only West Coast dates and at various times the band has had Rob Wasserman and Daniel Shulman who played with Garbage on bass and Clint Wagner on guitar fill in when they are unavailable. Saxophone players Steve Mackay and Herman Green, guitar player Calvin Newborn, and bass player J. D. Westmoreland have also joined the band during select live shows.
MIDWEST HYPE Midwest Hype is a 7-piece outfit hailing from all over Indiana/Chicago. The band's sound is rooted in reggae, jazz, and hip-hop, yet constantly expands in every direction, bringing together the vast influences of all seven members to create a sonically unique blend that is the essence of true modern rock n' roll. With an extremely high-energy live show that never fails to capture the electricity in the air, Midwest Hype is a free-wheeling, dance floor mayhem-inducing force to be reckoned with.
JAIK WILLIS Jaik Willis is a wild fire-breathing freakshow, pummeling a flying V acoustic guitar that crashes like cymbals and booms like a bass; howling & scatting impossible vocal turns while simultaneously beat-boxing. Playing 200 shows a year with appearances at Bonnaroo, Summer Camp Music Fest, Dunegrass, the Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Fests etc. Jaik Willis got a shout out in Rolling Stone magazine in Oct 2012 for his vocal contribution to the latest Bassnectar album "FreeStyle" that debuted at #1 on iTunes.
