THE INVISIBLE PEAK, Gary Yost, 22 min., 2013 A documentary about a Cold War Nike missile targeting radar station on Mt. Tamalpais that had been abandoned by the military 30 years ago and never cleaned up. Not a totally unusual story except for that fact that this is smack dab in the middle of one of the busiest National Parks in the country... The Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
A CALL TO GRACE, Jenovah Carlisle, 13 min., 2013 Recently released from prison, Victor Wright (Jarrod Smith) has one burning aspiration, to rekindle the lost relationship he once shared with his teenage daughter, Vanessa (Lexi Cook). Back on the streets of Oakland, Victor must now readapt to a life of decency and civility. Haunted by unemployment and tempted to pursue a life of crime by an old friend, Gino (Tony Allen), Victor has to straddle the fence between two ways of life. A young teenage runaway, Grace (Nina Moore), is also drawn to the pay phone. Her presence further complicates Victor's life.
HD, Alex Zajicek, 7 min., 2014 A film student gets obsessed with making his movie as 'HD' as possible, to the point that it begins to have an adverse effect on his work and his relationship with his best friend.
DAY OF THE DEAD, Jason Boyce, 4 min., 2013
HOT DESERT NIGHT, Summer Dunsmore, 5 min., 2013 Inspired by the beauty of a mysterious muse and the natural splendor of his surroundings, a man explores the concept of freedom and the depths of his own imagination.
GHOST OF THE RIVER: OUT OF THE SHADOWS (excerpt), Leslie Dreyer, 10 min., 2013 This documentary delves into the true stories behind ShadowLight Productions' 2009 shadow play, Ghosts of theRiver, written by Octavio Solís, directed by Larry Reed, with art direction by Favianna Rodriguez and original music by Dúo Cascada de Flores. The play humanized contentious subjects surrounding immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border and illuminated stories of those who have crossed the Rio Grande throughout time. Going behind the scenes and beyond, the film reveals Solís' experience growing up on the border and some cast members' first accounts crossing it.
CONFUSION THROUGH SAND, Benjamin Wiessner, 12 min., 2013 A nineteen year old finds himself alone in a hostile desert, scared as hell and trained to react. I don't have any stills with me right now, but we have several on our facebook page for ornana.
LILY IN THE GRINDER, Michael Morgenstern, 14 min., 2013 Ryan lives in Brooklyn and looks for a job, maybe in social media or something. He sits around the house, wanders New York City, and questions the point of his existence. Bridging experimental and narrative form, Lily is like attending a live string quartet concert that explodes into the visual field. The film flits to the future and past and back while an original score, written in the style of Béla Bartók, tells its own piece of the story. Draped in kaleidoscopic imagery and crackling with dark humor, Lily in the Grinder probes sex, death, and time.
