QUICKSILVER presents STILE MODERNO: New Music from 17th-century Italy
Among the cultural upheaval of the 17th century was also revolution in Western musicthe theatrical stile moderno and its radical new form, the sonota. Here, for the first time, came purely intrumental work with no agendano accompanying text or dance or preconcieved structureand its style a study in jagged contrasts of tempo, mood, key, and instrumentation, of ensembles versus solos. In the hands of Quicksilver, stile moderno translates into nothing short of spectacular, with the New York Times reporting audiences cheering the ensemble as if they were at a rock concert with a performance that blows away any sense of the antique.
