SOUND & CHAOS: The Story of BC Studio + Martin Bisi Live!
According to Wikipedia, Martin Bisi is a producer and a songwriter. Those things are true. But over the years he's earned a stellar reputation within the music community recording a wildly diverse cornucopia of albums by the likes of Sonic Youth,Swans/Angels of Light, John Zorn, Helmet, White Zombie, and Herbie Hancock's Grammy-winning, "Rockit".
Originally opening Brooklyn's "OAO Studios" with Bill Laswell and Brian Eno in 1979, the soon to become "B.C Studios" would record much of the influential no-wave, punk and early hip-hop amid the sound & chaos of that fertile era including Lydia Lunch, Foetus, Live Skull and Afrika Bambaata and in 1982 he recorded the tracks that would go on to be Whitney Houston's first appearance as a singer on Material's "One Way Down" LP. It wasn't until 1988 that Bisi's solo career would begin to manifest. First with "Creole Mass", followed by "All Will Be Won" ('92), "See Ya In Tiajuana ('94), "Dear Papi I'm In Jail" ('96), "Milkyway of Love" ('99), and more recently with 2008's "Sirens Of The Apocalypse" and the "Son Of A Gun" EP in 2010 featuring Brian Viglione of The Dresden Dolls and Bob D'Amico of The Fiery Furnaces.
So one might be inclined to understand why Mr. Bisi didn't begin his touring career full-on until 2009. Now with the impact and influence of such a career being captured in the great new documentary, "Sound & Chaos" you'll have the rare opportunity to both see the film and hear Martin live with a full band at the historic Grand Illusion Cinema Friday, October 24th. Act wisely, seating is limited. Nerd Alert; Yes, there will be a Q&A.
