Bent of the River Festival 2014
Join us for our annual community fun day, BentFest 2014.  To be held rain or shine from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., the family-oriented BentFest 2014 will feature picnicking in the meadow, river and nature walks, hay rides, tie-dye T-shirt creations, food vendors, kids' activities, bird watching, raffle prizes, plus live music by the Willie Nininger Band.

"We are delighted to welcome back the popular singer songwriter Willie Nininger, his wife and singer Jan Nininger, and their very talented accompanist Ken Melton on vocals and percussion, to Bent of the River. Their music is an eclectic blend of oldies, rock 'n roll, original music, plus country and folk music. The band performs favorites from the 50s, 60s and 70s including the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby Stills & Nash and some original songs. At the Bent Fest, the Willie & Jan Trio will perform between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., preceded throughout the afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m. with BentFest activities for family members of all ages," stated Leslie Kane, Center Director.

Activities scheduled for the BentFest2014 include a birds of prey presentation at 2:00 p.m.; bird banding demonstration at 5:00 p.m.; nature walks along historic Pootatuck Road that was the original 1700's road from Boston to Yorktown, NY and is part of the National Rochambeau Trail; an insect safari; bird-watching boulevard; un-natural nature trail hikes; kids' bird feeder activity and kids' favorite crafts with Kara. The Green Blessings Center of Southbury will offer chair massages with all proceeds to go to the Bent. The YWARF-Youth Wildlife & Recycling Foundation of Southbury will sell bottled water with proceeds to go to the Bent. Other and activities will be available!

In the Bent's historic 1800s barn a fundraising sale of coffee, tea and pastries will be held. "In 2013," stated Kane, "we created a well-received cafe area in our iconic historic barn. Visitors sit inside our beautiful barn while they enjoy refreshments and admire the weather-worn wood and large beams of this 45 x 30 foot post Civil War barn." Pastries will be donated by Bakes and Cakes of Southbury.
