About LOS HOLLYWOOD: (NOVEMBER 5 @ RUMBA 351 W. Hubbard) 21+ Los Hollywood (LH) was formed in 2007 when Heidy (Vox), Marcos (Guitar/Bass) and Gustavo (Drums) decided to join forces and talents looking for a fresh sound and a new musical horizon. British Rock influences their music, yet they never forget their Latino roots. About Los Hollywood:
In less than one year, LH quickly captured the attention of the public and the media. In the first months of 2008, LH entered the studio and recorded their debut album produced by Cuevo Perez of Carrusel Records. In June 2008, LH won the first Myspace Latino Battle of the Bands. This accomplishment gave LH the privilege of being one of the five bands sponsored nationwide by Myspace Latino for a one year period.
About NATALIA LAFOURCADE: (NOVEMBER 13 @ LOGAN SQUARE AUDITORIUM 2539 N. Kedzie)18+
One of the more colorful and charismatic pop artists to emerge in Mexico during the early 2000s, Natalia Lafourcade debuted in 2003 with a fascinating solo effort before switching to a rock band format, Natalia y la Forquetina, and proved herself worthy of acclaim in whatever guise she chose. Born Natalia Lafourcade Silva on February 26, 1984, in Mexico City, she took an early interest in music, for her parents were musicians. She knew at an early age that she wanted to become an artist, and over the course of her childhood she studied accordingly: painting, theater, and music, including such instruments as flute, guitar, piano, and saxophone, as well as singing. Though she attended a Catholic middle school, Instituto Anglo Espanol, Lafourcade spent several years living with her mother in Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico, where they both studied music. Some of her cited contemporary influences are Fiona Apple, Bjork, CafeĀ Tacuba, and Zuco 103.
About HELLO SEAHORSE:(NOVEMBER 13 @ LOGAN SQUARE AUDITORIUM 2539 N. Kedzie) 18+ Hello Seahorse!, the Mexican trio of Burgos, Denise (aka Vanilla Face), and Bonno T, mix a twee sensibility and artsy DIY visual aesthetic with unexpected instrumental interludes (lapping ocean waves, jumbled voices over piano) and spacier, darker, non-twee moments. They have a knack for writing pop songs that hit you immediately. You could think of them as a scaled down Los Campesinos! (note shared exclamation point), an even more scaled down I'm From Barcelona, or, maybe, a Sarah Records band singing in Spanish. (On a track like "Antardecer En Parapent" you'll even hear Stereolab in the vocal patterns.) HS!'s catchiest song, bar none, is "Won't Say Anything," which we have in video and audio form. You should also take a listen to the glitchier Velocity Girl-esque "Universo 2," which closes out Hoy A Las Ocho, and gives an idea of the band's aforementioned diversity.
About Volumen Cero (November 19 @ RUMBA 351 W. Hubbard)21+ Miami-based Latin rock band Volumen Cero was formed in the late '90s by musicians from South America who were previously playing under the name of Orgasmic Bliss, releasing an independent album in 1996. A year later, the group's name was changed to Volumen Cero, making its debut while participating in a national contest sponsored by Latin television network Telemundo and becoming one of the finalists. In May of 1998, Volumen Cero's debut album called Andromeda, produced by Richard Coleman, was released. In addition, the band participated in a tribute to British goth rock act the Cure with "Lovesong" and a similar to Caifanes, featuring "No Dejes Que." The growing buzz on the band was strong enough to convince Warner Music Latina to sign them in 2001, leading to the release of the Loces album in the summer of 2002. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide
