Milla Milojkovic - Classic Jazz vocals
"[Milla] sings with admirably good taste, keen sense of time and implacable intonation . . . . Her emotional colors warm and animate her soulful interpretations --Dr. Herb Wong, famed jazz journalist/producer
Milla stands out with a beautiful vocal sound....This woman has real feeling in her singing. --Larry Vuckovich, jazz pianist
"Milla is an emissary from another era -- her music, her lingo, her style. She evokes experiences certainly beyond her years. Must be that Balkan soul." --Bruce Bellingham, SF Examiner
Milla Molojkovic evokes the feeling of the old-time alto vocalists, eminating the class and elegance of Ella Fitzgerald and the light-hearted sexiness of Peggy Lee. Milla chooses her musical repertoire to allow her playfulness and soul to shine through. Her song selection conveys both a thorough love for the classics of Porter and Ellington, and the daring to re-create lesser-known musical gems.
Milla is blessed to have been born into a family of music enthusiasts. In the Milojkovic household, music was not only a way of life, it was also a way to stay connected to Yugoslav culture. Her parents emigrated from the former Yugoslavia, and her mother continued to sing Balkan folk music and play in tamburitza orchestras with Milla and her sister alongside her. At the tender age of five, Milla sang her first solo at a Slavic music festival for a crowd of hundreds. From that point on, there was little else that Milla would consider as a lifepath; she was hooked.
Milla's ethnic connections and her love of music brought her many performance opportunities in the rich Slavic music community throughout her youth. She began a rigorous study of classical voice and operatic training during her teens, going on to study at the Manhattan School of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she earned her B.M. in Vocal Performance.
Milla's debut CD, Dream a Little, features skillful renditions of some of American Songbook classics. The recording was enhanced by several legendary jazz musicians: pianist Larry Vuckovich, Serbian-American bassist Buca Necak, former Count Basie drummer Harold Jones, and renowned reeds player Noel Jewkes. The release has been gaining momentum, receiving airplay on jazz radio stations in hundreds of cities across the United States.
