Kids in the Spotlight's 5th Annual "Movies By Kids, For Kids" Film Festival & Awards Celebration Hosted by Ty Burrell of ABC's Modern Family
Kids in the Spotlight's "Movies By Kids, For Kids" Film Festival and Awards Ceremony recognizes and celebrates young filmmakers from the foster care system. Kids in the Spotlight is a non-profit organization providing a unique arts and healing program to foster care youth and other under-served youth.
Kids in the Spotlight's "Movies By Kids, For Kids" Film Festival is the non-profit's fifth annual red carpet event that showcases and awards 10-minute films written by, casted by and starring underserved youth. This event is our version of the "Oscars" for our participants. Kids from the ages of 11 to 18 are trained for 10 weeks in the essentials of filmmaking using the Final Draft software and equipment used by professionals in the industry. The safe and creative environment fosters teamwork and discipline, resulting in a better self-image and a sense of accomplishment for kids who may not have the same opportunities as their peers. Kids in the Spotlight stimulates a greater belief in their ability to rise above social and economic conditions.
The film festival serves to celebrate the participant's hard work as well as raise funds to continue the program and benefit more kids. Similar to Hollywood industry award ceremonies, the festival will be announcing awards for: Best Film Best Actor Best Supporting Actor Best Ensemble Best Screenplay/Story A few of our celebrity presenters includes: Ty Burrell (Host) - ABC's Modern Family Mo McRae - FX's Son's Of Anarchy, The Butler Greer Grammer - MTV's Awkward Andrea Navedo - HBO's The Leftovers Curtis Harris - Nickelodeon's Haunted Hathaways Kendrick Sampson - CW's Vampire Diaries
