RACIAL JUSTICE FILM: Mama Africa
Miriam Makeba is the first black African musician who won international stardom and whose music was always anchored in her traditional South African roots. Makeba was forced into exile in 1959. She sang for JFK, performed with Harry Belefonte and Nina Simone. She was married to Hugh Masekela and Stokely Carmichael. Her life was tumultuous, yet she always stood for truth and justice.
