Laurie Kilmartin's 45 Jokes About My Dead Dad
Laurie Kilmartin's 45 Jokes About My Dead Dad ~A Mostly Enjoyable Evening of Terrifically Grim Comedy~
LIVE FILM SHOOT STAND UP SPECIAL
Kilmartin's peculiar genius [is] ... to seek the funny inside the pain not two years from now when the pain has dulled but right now, when it is still fresh and raw" - Leonard Pitts, Jr. syndicated columnist, Miami Herald
From the live tweets at her father's deathbed, stand-up comic and Internet sensation, Laurie Kilmartin, will be performing for a live film shoot of "45 Jokes About My Dead Dad" at The Lyric Theater in Los Angeles, California, October 17th and 18th.
Kilmartin's ground breaking live Twitter feed quickly garnered press and Twitter followers, 40K+ in a matter of days. Many comics and writers responded including Patton Oswalt, Kelly Carlin and Nina L. Diamond. Her comments are as painful as they are hilarious and give voice to the very human thoughts we keep to ourselves as a loved one passes from life to death.
From these Tweets, Kilmartin created four minutes of live performance material about the March 2nd passing of her father. She thought it might be fun- or at least interesting- to release a 5-minute special that was shot the way most comics shoot their hours. "Theater, three cameras, the works. I booked a venue, hired a producer and director. This is not a one-person show. I don't do that. In my heart of hearts, I'm a nightclub comic. No tears. No message. Some dick jokes."
Laurie Kilmartin is an exceptionally significant voice of our time. Her humor is quick, dry and dark. She reveals herself with a raw self-deprecating awareness and a humor that has the audience laughing through her journey of pain.
Kilmartin is an Emmy nominee with TV appearances on Conan, Jimmy Kimmel, Comedy Central and Last Comic Standing. Kilmartin spent her first 10 years as a standup in San Francisco, the second 10 in New York City and now lives in LA. She currently writes for CONAN on TBS and is a best-selling author. When home in LA, Laurie does stand-up nearly every night and when on her 10-week TV hiatus she's on the road headlining all over the country.
