Critical Thinking for Burlesque Performance for Boylesque and Graduate Students
Critical Thinking in Burlesque
This workshop will challenge the performer to think more critically and deeply about the messages that are expressed through performance and how those messages are interpreted by the audience.
Through discussion and exercises, we will explore gender roles and expression, audience reception, and examine the issue of cultural appropriation in burlesque.
Bio:
Queertini Time is an award-winning, gender-bending burlesque duet from Austin, Texas. Comprised of Eaton Johnson and Shelby Mine, this comedic duo began performing together in 2004. Notable performances include the Southern Fried Burlesque Festival, Texas Burlesque Festival, Dallas Burlesque Festival, and the Fierce International Queer Burlesque Festival.
This duo was awarded Best Duet and the Audience Choice award at the first annual Southern Fried Burlesque Festival in 2011. More recently, they were selected as Best Ensemble at the 2013 Texas Burlesque Festival.
Queertini Time strives to create innovative numbers that question (and sometimes destroy) gender roles and stereotypes. Eaton's uncanny comic timing and Shelby's saucy style always provide for a provocative, humorous, and unique experience for the audience. Partners in life as well as on stage, this couple really enjoys "rehearsing" together.
