Now in its 16th year, YES! is produced by Kaye Weinstein Gary, Artistic Director of K Dance. Since its inception in 1999, K Dance's fall production has brought more than 100 contemporary companies to Richmond.
Richmond audiences have a chance to see a unique program, filled with creative ideas, and performed by skilled dancers and actors. The innovative work of the guest companies for YES! Dance Invitational reflect the nature of contemporary work that is currently being produced in different regions of the country.
Each year K Dance accepts applications from companies/ensembles that wish to be presented in YES! The goal is to showcase companies with different themes, different creative approaches, variety of musical compositions and costume/prop ideas. No two years of YES! look alike.
The synergy of combining dance and theatre has long been a component of K Dance's vision. Each project is unique in scope, with a commitment to creative thematic material. This is often achieved by mixing expressive mediums and the works frequently derive inspiration from theatre, music, literature, history and the visual arts.
K Dance is partially supported by funding from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and the E. Rhodes & Leona B. Carpenter Foundation.
