DOPE:420 Stories About Pot, Weed, Kush, Prisons, Parents and People
Created and performed by youth age 13-19 under the direction of Free Street's Artistic Director Coya Paz, DOPE is a fast, funny, and unapologetic look at the U.S.A.'s most controversial drug. As marijuana slowly becomes legalized from city to city, state to state, where does this leave Black and Brown youth who continue to be the primary targets of drug enforcement, policing and incarceration? How do young Mexican immigrants reconcile party culture with drug violence back home? If weed could speak, what would she have to say?
First presented in April of 2013, DOPE played to sold out houses of all ages and returns this fall for a limited run on Friday nights in September and October as part of Free Street's 2014-2015 season.
