The Beirut Apartment (50min) / Not Quite the Taliban (72min)
The Beirut Apartment This documentary takes a look inside the lives of young, gay men and women in Beirut. The filmmaker rented an apartment in Beirut to allow their subjects to speak freely about topics such as war, religion, the rise of Hezbollah and renewed conflicts with Israel, along with issues of sexuality and gender. Despite differing backgrounds and opinions, these men and women share in their struggle to live in a culture that denies their existence.
Not Quite the Taliban The story of one mans frustration with his generation of modern Arabs who appear Western but are more conservative than the traditional Arabs. While there are many films about hypocrisy in the Middle East made by Western filmmakers, Not Quite The Taliban is the first to be made by an Arab whos put himself on the line by speaking up about the taboos, such as his homosexuality.
