The Tempest
Lightning and thunder! A ship is going down. All those on board are screaming and praying for their lives. And so begins Shakespeare's last comedy. Have no fear, all those on board are safe, but they're in for a rich and strange afternoon as Prospero, magician and former duke of Milan, brings his shipwrecked enemies together to account for their crimes against him. The magical island that is the backdrop for this enchanting play is populated with bizarre creatures and spirits which Prospero and his daughter Miranda have lived with and learned from for 12 years. It is finally time to go home. Join the Bedfellows as they bring this enchantment to the Union Arts Center for one weekend only. Steampunk costumes and modern music give this magical romp an updated vibe. It's a colorful caper for audiences ages 5 95!
The Strange Bedfellows are a troupe of actors from Rockland County who present classical theater with a twist. Modern music, gorgeous costumes and spare sets are used to convey the exciting stories of William Shakespeare and others to modern audiences in an easily accessible and very entertaining manner. Under the direction of Diana Green this group has produced six full-length plays to date, including the highly acclaimed Romeo & Juliet this past summer. The group calls the Union Arts Center in Sparkill their home, but they often travel to outdoor venues and other spaces to keep the spice of variety in their work.
