ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction
Its 2003, and the idyllic island town of Port Gamble, Washington, is under gruesome attack by an invasive pest: zombies! Gore abounds (really abounds) as a ragtag band of rebels tries to push back the hoards of brain-eating undead. They are led by two outcast residents: Frida (Janette Armand), an Iranian college student coping with the towns suspicions that she's a terrorist; and Tom (Doug Fahl), a businessman reluctantly coming homeand coming outwith his boyfriend (Cooper Hopkins). Small-town prejudices come to the fore, but alliances must be forged if the onslaught of lurching zombies is to be vanquished. Heavily indebted to George Romero, ZMD: ZOMBIES OF MASS DESTRUCTION features old-school special effects and a Moog-heavy score reminiscent of its 1970s inspirations. Bloody zombie mayhem abounds (a truly shocking sight gag early on indicates the filmmakers are game for just about anything), but ZMD is also weirdly good-natured and often quite clever in its send-up of movie clichs and post-9/11 paranoia and prejudices, tackling them through twisted humor. In fact, no subculture escapes unscathed.
