Travel Queeries
From Berlin to Belgrade and Warsaw to Rome the question is asked: How do you identify yourself? Queer? Trans? Faggot? Brown Boi? From performance artists to anarchists to pioneering LGBT leaders, TRAVEL QUEERIES explores the culture, art, and activism of radical queers in Europe, documenting innovative actions and projects that push against the commercialization of gay culture. In Berlin, one interviewee decides to quit complaining and host that citys first drag-king show, while in London, an anarchist black-lingerie group goes public. Meanwhile, queers in Belgrade hold its first local gay pride parade; unfortunately for the dozen brave participants, 1,500 neo-Nazis and hooligans show up as well. In Rome, passionate Italians are torn between their liberal leanings and the homophobia of the Catholic Church. With intimacy and enthusiasm, the film explores issues of language, nationality, art, anti-capitalism, race, gender, and how the queer experience varies across Europe. In this cross-cultural travelogue of frank interviews combined with animation, video art, and an international soundtrack, TRAVEL QUEERIES delves into a subculture that operates for the most part under the radar of the LGBT mainstream.
