Lady Trojans
This frisky and fascinating documentary looks back at the scores, heartbreaks, and sexual game-playing of a girls' high school basketball team in 1990s Tucson.
Anna is a star player and one of a group of self-identified lesbians who make up the majority of the team. Anna and her teammates take exciting risks exploring their sexuality, figuring out if they are gay, straight, or bi as they fool around, date, and fall in love with one another. A freshman who hasn't even had her first kiss, Anna falls hard for Quinn, a sexy, butch senior on a mission to seduce as many straight freshmen girls as possible. Their on-and-off affair throughout Anna's four years at Catalina High is well-documented with love poetry, candid home video, and, more recently, Anna's novel about her high school experience, on which the film's dramatic reenactments are based.
Through current interviews with the Lady Trojans, archival home movies from their high school escapades, reenactments, personal photographs, and original animation, LADY TROJANS explores teen sexuality, manipulation, and love, all part of coming out and coming of age.
