COME HELL OR HIGH WATER: THE BATTLE FOR TURKEY CREEK, co-presented by Berkeley FILM Foundation and co-sponsored by The Oakland Film Society with a post-film Q&A (Doc Night)
COME HELL OR HIGH WATER: THE BATTLE FOR TURKEY CREEK follows the painful but inspiring journey of Derrick Evans, a Boston teacher who moves home to coastal Mississippi when the graves of his ancestors are bulldozed to make way for the sprawling city of Gulfport. Over the course of a decade, Derrick and his neighbors stand up to powerful corporate interests and politicians and face Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil disaster in their struggle for self-determination and environmental justice.
This showing of "Come Hell or High Water: The Battle for Turkey Creek" features a post-film Q&A with director Leah Mahan. She will be joined by Derrick Evans of Turkey Creek and Gus Newport, former mayor of Berkeley, who works nationally with organizations on community development strategy.
This film is a co-presentation of The New Parkway and The Berkeley FILM Foundation.
