Faculty & Guest Artist Series: 85th Anniversary Opening Concert Saturday, September 20, 7:30 pm The season opens with a celebration of the Music Institute's 85th anniversary and features more than 15 faculty artists performing compositions associated with the number "85", including works by Brahms, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Ravel and Stravinsky.
Charlie Parker Jazz Festival: Bird with Strings Friday, November 7, 7:30 pm Jazz veteran Charles McPherson is featured as the saxophone soloist with artist-in-residence, Tammy McCann joining the ensemble to sing Easy Living and I Thought About You. Also on the program is a newly commissioned work for jazz quartet and strings by Northwestern University's Director of Jazz Studies,Victor Goines.
Charlie Parker Jazz Festival: Bebop Extravaganza Saturday, November 8, 7:30 pm Featuring Charles McPherson and the Music Institute jazz faculty quintet, with Victor Garcia, Ernie Adams, Jeremy Kahn and Stewart Miller performing Charlie Parker classics, such as Confirmation, Moose the Mooch and Ornithology.
Chicago Duo Piano Festival: The Mack Sisters Friday, March 6 7:30 pm Japanese-born Yuki and Tomoko Mack have won several prizes in prestigious international competitions such as the Dranoff International Two-Piano Competition in Florida, the Ellis Two-Piano National Competition in South Carolina, and the International Piano Duo Competition in Tokyo.
Chicago Duo Piano Festival: Piano Faculty Extravaganza Saturday, March 7 7:30 pm Music Institute of Chicago faculty present duo piano favorites in one of the the festival's most popular events. With more than 45 piano faculty members, MIC has one of the largest community school piano departments in the nation.
Faculty & Guest Artist Series: Cavani Quartet Sunday, April 19, 3:00 pm The highly regarded Cavani Quartet, ensemble-in-residence at the Cleveland Institute of Music, celebrates its 30th anniversary at Nichols Concert Hall. The program includes Mendelssohn's Octet and features students from the Music Institute's Academy for gifted pre-college musicians.
Faculty & Guest Artist Series: Ying Quartet Saturday, May 2, 7:30 pm The Grammy Award-winning Ying Quartet has established itself as an ensemble of the highest musical order. Quartet-in-residence at the Eastman School of Music, this distinguished Music Institute alumni group performs classic repertoire along with works the quartet has commissioned.
