We are very excited to be able to create this salon in anticipation of Slater Mill's Steampunk Soiree on Saturday, September 6th. The Steampunk Soiree is part of the opening weekend festivities for SAM Fest and the Pawtucket Arts Festival.
2 - 5pm | $25 or $40 for Deluxe Package, which Includes a Fall Chifferobe Bag
2-3:30 What is Steampunk? A series of guest speakers will speak to elements of Steampunk history. With so many facets to this complex culture and lifestyle, we thought a sampling of the parts will offer a more extensive selection for your further pursuit and pleasure. In addition to an overview, please look forward to film screenings, readings from the works of literary geniuses such as H.G Wells and Jules Verne, and additional surprises.
Also, please look forward to a special presentation on fashion associated with the movement by vintage attire and costume specialist (and owner of Nostalgia), Karen Antonowicz. This portion of the workshop will be of particular use to guests who may be attending the Steampunk Soiree. You will learn about the aesthetic through images of (and actual) period and period-inspired attire. Karen will also share thoughts on how to accomplish an inspired look with items from your home and closet.
3:30-3:50 Break
3:50-5 Cocktails and Crafting Build Your Own Accessory From Destructed Appliances. Cocktails and materials will be supplied, but feel free to bring anything that you may like to incorporate such as feathers, broken watch and clock parts, etc. OR If not interested in fashioning your own accessory, please feel free to stay and enjoy speaking with our guest speakers and enjoy additional film excerpts.
